GMKtec has launched a 192GB AMD-powered mini PC costing up to $7,099, proving that shrinking the box doesn’t reduce the bill.
According to Tom’s Hardware the Evo-X5 Pro targets local AI workloads with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor and 192GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory.
Standard pricing starts at $6,799 with a 2TB SSD, rising to $7,099 for 4TB. Apparently, putting “AI” on a desktop now requires a discussion with your mortgage adviser.
The Gorgon Halo processor packs 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, boosting to 5.2GHz. Up to 160GB of system memory can be allocated to graphics, providing room for large language models.
Memory bandwidth reaches roughly 273GB/s. Having enough capacity to load a model helps, but capacity alone says little about how quickly it will run.
Cooling combines a vapour chamber with three fans. Silent mode sets the processor to 54W, balanced mode allows 85W and performance mode permits 120W sustained, with 160W peaks.
Three PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots support up to 24TB of storage, although only two run at x4. The third is limited to x1. Initial promotional prices are $6,399 for 2TB and $6,699 for 4TB, with the lowest tier restricted to the first 30 units.
