AOC pushes gaming monitors to 1,050Hz

Display maker AOC has confirmed that its Agon Pro AGP257FT gaming monitor will arrive in early 2027, offering refresh rates reaching an extraordinary 1,050Hz.

According to TechSpot the 24.5-inch display runs at a native 1,000Hz, with an overclocking mode providing another 50Hz for gamers who apparently find ordinary milliseconds intolerable.

AOC originally demonstrated the monitor earlier this year but has now confirmed its specifications and expected availability.

The AGP257FT uses an oxide-based Fast IPS panel with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 × 1,080 pixels. AOC claims the technology overcomes the voltage-response limitations that prevent conventional LCD panels from achieving such extreme refresh rates.

The company quotes a minimum grey-to-grey response time of 0.3ms and a moving picture response time of 0.1ms. Those figures are impressive, although achieving them under controlled conditions does not necessarily establish how the display will perform across every game and refresh rate.

AOC has equipped the monitor with Motion Blur Reduction Plus technology, which is intended to improve image clarity during fast movements. Nvidia G-Sync Compatible support is included to reduce screen tearing and stuttering when the graphics card cannot maintain a consistent frame rate.

The panel carries VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification and uses 20-zone local dimming. Its typical brightness is rated at 450 nits. Colour coverage reaches 99 per cent of the sRGB colour space and 90 per cent of DCI-P3.

These specifications suggest AOC has concentrated primarily on speed, although the colour performance should remain adequate for everyday gaming. Connectivity includes two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 2.1 connection and a USB hub with three 5Gbps USB-A ports.

It includes a headphone output, an integrated headset hook, and an adjustable stand with 150mm of height adjustment. The stand supports tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments. AOC includes a QuickSwitch keypad for changing display settings without wrestling with the monitor’s on-screen menus.

The company has paid particular attention to eye comfort, incorporating a hardware-based Low Blue Light system and a flicker-free backlight. It even includes TÜV Rheinland-certified circular polarisation, which AOC claims reduces glare and eye fatigue during extended gaming sessions.

AGON by AOC senior gaming product manager César Acosta said the company wanted to remove display performance as a limiting factor in competitive gaming.

“At the highest level of competitive play, matches are decided in milliseconds. With the AGON PRO AGP257FT, we set out to remove the display as a limiting factor, combining a native 1000 Hz / 1050 Hz OC refresh rate with response times as low as 0.3ms GtG, so that every flick, peek and reaction appears on screen exactly when it happens,” Acosta said.

The challenge is finding a graphics card that can deliver 1,000 frames per second. Competitive esports titles are the obvious candidates, particularly at Full HD with reduced graphics settings. Diminishing returns is another question. Increasing the refresh rate from 144Hz to 240Hz reduces the interval between frames from approximately 6.94ms to 4.17ms.

Moving from 1,000Hz to 1,050Hz shaves less than 0.05ms off that interval, leaving even professional gamers with precious little additional time to react.

The monitor is expected to become available during the first quarter of 2027. AOC has not announced pricing, although a display capable of refreshing more than a thousand times per second is unlikely to appear in the bargain bin.
