Thanks to the FCC
Engadget has spent some time hanging around the FCC Website and found a whole bunch of pictures of Asus' upcoming 9-inch Eee PC, and the FCC has stripped it and taken some pictures of its guts for your viewing pleasure.
However, this doesn't seem to be the new Atom-based Eee PC, as the chipset and CPU packaging appears to be too large from our understanding of what the Atom platform will look like. The 9-inch model has a PCIe MiniCard slot which is occupied by a WiFi card, it has an internal USB Bluetooth dongle, at least three USB 2.0 ports, a D-sub connector, an Ethernet port, a multi-format memory card reader and what appears to be a mini SATA interface for 1.8-inch hard drives.
Oddly enough, there's also a connector just in front of the mini SATA interface which we can't quite figure out what it's for. It also appears to have a single SO-DIMM slot for memory upgrades, let's just hope it's DDR2 this time around.
Furthermore, Engadget claims that it has a multi-touch touch pad, similar to that on the MacBook Air, rather than a touch screen as reported earlier. Hopefully, it won't be too long now until the 9-inch model launches, but Asus might hold it back to wait and see what its competitors are up to.
