New Transformer tablet, FonePad phablet
Asus thinks it has come up with the mother of all Android tablets. The new Transformer Pad Infinity is a dockable 10-incher with a 2560×1600 panel, the same resolution used on the vaunted Nexus 10.
It is powered by Nvidia’s new Tegra 4 SoC clocked at 1.9GHz and it even supports 4K output via HDMI. Connectivity is equally impressive, as it has a USB 3.0 port and Bluetooth 3.0. Like previous high-end Transformers, the beast is packed in a metallic chassis and has a detachable physical keyboard dock.
It ships with 32GB of storage, but it has a memory card slot in the dock and since previous versions also featured a microSD slot in the device itself, it is more than likely that the new one has it as well.
Asus didn’t forget about the low-end, either. It has a new 7-inch MeMo Pad, with a bargain bin price tag. The MeMo Pad HD 7 boasts a 1280×800 display like the Nexus 7, along with a quad-core A7 processor and it costs $129, which is very cheap indeed.
The company has also given in to the phablet craze, with the FonePad Note, a huge 6-inch phone with a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and a dual-core Atom Z2560 processor.
Asus is already a big name in Android tablets and the new line-up indicates that it’s not going anywhere – we must say we’re impressed and the $129 MeMo Pad looks like the best cheap Android tab out there.
