AMD has finally remembered RX 7000 and RX 6000 owners, bringing FSR 4.1 to gamers left peering through the window.
The outfit announced FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 for Radeon RX 7000 and RX 6000 GPUs, with support for more than 300 games at launch. AMD launched FSR 4.1 in March but kept quiet about whether older hardware would get a look-in.
AMD had been criticised for saying nothing about support for FSR 4.0 and FSR 4.1 on RDNA 3 and RDNA 2 hardware. That was particularly awkward because Nvidia has kept bringing newer DLSS features to older cards.
Now the wait appears to be ending. AMD has finally announced FSR 4.1 for previous-generation Radeon hardware, which should please millions of gamers who did not fancy buying a new GPU just to get better upscaling.
In an X post AMD senior vice president Jack Huynh said the company was bringing FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 to RDNA 3 GPUs soon.
Huynh said he had been a gamer for his whole life, and that his team had been working to bring FSR 4 to more GPUs. FSR 4.1 will land on RDNA 3, better known as Radeon RX 7000, in July 2026.
AMD says it has something “exciting” for RDNA 2 owners in early 2027, which means Radeon RX 6000 users are still waiting. The company has not given an exact date for RDNA 2 support.
Still, with FSR 4.1 arriving for RDNA 3 in two months, RX 7000 owners should soon get the better visuals that RDNA 4 users have already been enjoying.
Many RDNA 3 owners had already found unofficial ways to run FSR 4.0 and FSR 4.1 INT8 versions in games. Popular tools such as Optiscaler helped users on RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 upgrade from older FSR versions to newer ones.
The results were apparently impressive, which proved the point that users wanted the feature and were willing to use unofficial toolsets to get it.
With official support, users should no longer need to lean on workarounds or hope a modded setup behaves itself after a driver update.
The real test will be whether AMD keeps rolling out newer FSR technologies for previous-generation GPUs, rather than treating yesterday’s customers like yesterday’s driver package.
