AMD has announced the new Ryzen AI Max 400 series processors, an updated version of the Strix Halo platform, which aims at AI development systems and high-performance mobile computing.
The new Ryzen AI Max 400 series continues to combine up to 16 Zen 5 CPU cores with a large integrated RDNA 3.5 GPU featuring up to 40 compute units. It also comes with an upgraded NPU providing up to 55 TOPS AI performance. The biggest update comes in the form of updated memory support, which both increases the LPDDR5X memory capacity limit from 128GB to 192GB through updated memory controllers.

AMD says the unified memory architecture allows users to allocate up to 160 GB directly to the integrated GPU, significantly expanding support for large AI workloads and enabling the platform to run 300B+ parameter large language models locally. AMD has also slightly increased the clock speeds, where the CPU boost frequencies are now reaching up to 5.20GHz, and GPU boost clocks come up to 3.00GHz.

The lineup includes three models: the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, Ryzen AI Max PRO 490, and Ryzen AI Max PRO 485. The flagship Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 has a 16-core/32-thread CPU, as well as a fully enabled integrated GPU with 40 CUs and 55 TOPS NPU, while the Ryzen AI Max PRO 490 and the Ryzen AI Max PRO 485 SKUs are slightly cut-down versions but still provide respectable 50 TOPS of AI performance.

“AI is no longer confined to the cloud. It is now something developers can build, train, and run locally,” said Jack Huynh, SVP and GM, Computing and Graphics Group. “With the Ryzen AI Halo and Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series, we are delivering the performance, memory, and open AI software stack that developers and enterprises need to bring the next generation of agentic AI systems to life right on their desks.”
AMD is positioning the Ryzen AI Max 400 series as a platform for local AI development, workstation-class mobile systems, and edge AI workloads, while also confirming that consumer-focused versions are expected to launch later this year. The Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series processors, according to AMD, will be available from leading OEM partners, including HP and Lenovo, in the third quarter of 2026.
