A8-3870 is the name
According to a post over at Donanimhaber.com, AMD is preparing yet another quad-core desktop Llano part, the A8-3870. Unlike the current fastest A8-series quad-core, the A8-3870 will actually feature an unlocked multiplier.
The new A8-3870 is rumoured to have a 3.1GHz clock, while the Radeon HD 6550D will be the same one we seen in the A8-3650. Radeon HD 6550D is clocked at 600MHz and features 400 stream processors. The APU supports dual-channel DDR3-1866MHz memory.
The current fastest quad-core Llano APUs, A8-3850 and the A6-3650 are currently plagued by a minor bug that actually lets you raise base clock multiplier but without any effect, thus creating a false overclock that actually doesn’t do anything.
Unlike these two, the A8-3870 will have a true unlocked multiplier and will be the one that you should go for if you are craving for some extra CPU power and a extended overclocking potential.
According to the first rumours, the A8-3870 is scheduled for release in Q4 2011. Of course, we are still waiting for the rest of the desktop Llano lineup.
