AMD’s Frank Azor has moved quickly to squash claims that FSR 4.1 has been binned for RDNA 3.5 iGPUs.
AMD client and graphics marketing CVP Frank Azor took to X to deny rumours that FSR 4.1 had been restricted from RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics.
The rumour started after Hardware Luxx spoke with AMD client CVP and general manager David McAfee. Hardware Luxx reported that McAfee said FSR 4.1 was not planned for RDNA 3.5 graphics for now.
After the story spread online, Azor stepped in to say that no such internal decision had been made at AMD. Azor said no decision had been made to cancel FSR 4.1 for RDNA 3.5.
He said AMD was listening to its customers. The speed of the response was welcome, but it does raise a few questions. Azor used the same reply to respond to posts from Digital Foundry, Videocardz and Pirat_Nation.
That suggests AMD really does not want this rumour running around the internet with its trousers on fire. It could be that AMD wants to protect the image of its Strix and Gorgon Halo APUs, which use RDNA 3.5 graphics.
Nvidia’s recently launched RTX Spark is on the way with confirmed support for DLSS technology. Nvidia announced the RTX Spark Superchip with a Blackwell RTX GPU carrying 6,144 CUDA cores and one petaflop of FP4 AI performance.
The chip includes a 20-core Grace CPU custom-built with MediaTek and 128GB of LPDDR5X unified memory with NVLink C2C.
RTX Spark arrives with confirmed support for the full Nvidia stack. AMD rarely moves this fast to kill a rumour, so the shift in communications is worth noting.
If AMD restricts FSR 4.1 on the Strix or the Gorgon Halo, it should not be due to any obvious technical limitation. Testing showed Strix Halo could run FSR 4 INT8 without problems. Some titles did not even need third-party mods such as Optiscaler.
The question now is whether RDNA 3.5 iGPUs will get the upscaling tech they should have had lined up already.
