Lenovo ThinkSystem to Feature Water-Cooling
CES 2026 remains a premier source of industry intelligence, and conversations with Lenovo representatives at this year’s show provided significant insights into their upcoming roadmap.
According to engineers working on ThinkSystem solutions, Lenovo’s Neptune water-cooling technology will finally receive a dedicated AMD version. Currently, the company is showcasing and shipping the ThinkSystem SC750 V4 Neptune, which utilizes dual Intel Xeon 6 axial “Granite Rapids” processors. However, a future iteration is being developed specifically to support AMD’s 2nm “Venice” architecture.
2027: The Realistic Target for Availability
Despite official announcements suggesting that 2nm “Venice” chips will be available in 2026, it appears Lenovo will not be shipping compatible systems within that calendar year. We were informed that the market can expect to see the updated ThinkSystem—featuring a Neptune water-cooling loop adjusted for the AMD socket—arrive in 2027.
A Strategic Win for AMD
This partnership marks a significant victory for AMD in the high-performance computing (HPC) space. Nevertheless, staff at the show indicated that they do not anticipate high volume or wide system availability during the initial rollout year. While the “Venice” platform is expected to launch formally in the latter half of 2026, it is increasingly clear that it will realistically be a 2027 product for enterprise-grade OEM deployments.
