Overclocker Luumi has pushed an Intel Core i5-4670K to 6.3GHz, breaking a processor-specific Cinebench record that stood for approximately 12 years.
According to Hardware Busters the 2013 Haswell chip scored 10.80 points in Cinebench R11.5, edging past Strat’s previous 10.76-point result. Luumi ran at 6,301MHz, compared with the previous record’s 6,249MHz. The result tops 187 submissions in HWBOT’s Core i5-4670K category.
Luumi used liquid nitrogen to cool the four-core CPU, paired with an ASRock Z97 OC Formula motherboard and 4GB of XPG DDR3 memory. The RAM ran at 2,708MT/s with 8-12-7-28 timings and conventional air cooling.
A Corsair AXi 1600W power supply, Corsair Force GT SSD and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit completed the machine. Even the operating system had been dragged out of retirement.
Chipzilla’s 22nm processor originally shipped with a 3.4GHz base clock, a 3.8GHz maximum turbo frequency and 6MB of L3 cache. The record run reached approximately 66 per cent above its stock turbo clock.
The achievement applies specifically to the i5-4670K leaderboard. Modern processors comfortably exceed its score, but competitive overclocking gives older silicon its own fiercely contested categories. Luumi improved the benchmark result by just 0.04 points, approximately 0.37 per cent.
