Good thing nobody has Android 4.2
Google’s new app verification service, rolled out with Android 4.2, seems to be pretty bad at what it’s supposed to do.
Researcher Xuxian Jiang described the new scanner as “still nascent” and concluded that it has a detection rate of just 15.32 percent.
“Overall, among these 1,260 samples, 193 of them can be detected,” Jiang wrote.
Jiang argued that third-party security apps are still necessary with Android 4.2, because they tend to work, unlike Google’s service.
