$649 in US
Apple has started selling unlocked, contract-free iPhone 5s in the US, with prices starting at $649 for the 16GB version.
In keeping with tradition, incremental storage bumps cost $100, so the 32GB unit is priced at $749, while the flagship 64GB model costs $849. There is still no word on EU pricing, but most consumers know what to expect anyway.
Although most consumers prefer to pick up high-end phones on two-year contracts, there is still a market for unlocked devices. They’re probably a better choice for consumers who tend to spend a lot of time abroad, or don’t want to get entangled in a lengthy contract for any other reason.
