Evil Empire meets Clone Wars
Fruit themed gizmo maker Apple has won a federal court order
preventing Mac
computer clone maker Psystar from flogging copies of OSX or products
that
circumvent technologies that control access to the software. U.S.
District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco granted Apple’s request
yesterday for a permanent injunction against Psystar product sales.
The injunction follows a $2.67 million partial settlement of Apple’s
copyright-
infringement lawsuit against the clone maker. The permanent injunction
stops Psystar selling Rebel EFI which allows customers
to run the Mac operating system Snow Leopard on a non-Apple computer.
Psystar wanted to exclude the product from the injunction, saying it
was the
subject of a separate lawsuit it filed against Apple in Miami.
It is not over yet. Psystar can file documents providing more information about
Rebel EFI. The judge gave the company until December 31 to comply with his order.
