Fresh details about pinouts and I/O capabilities for Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra 200 series CPUs, codenamed Arrow Lake-S, have been leaked on Twitter.
Jaykihn0, a Twitter user, purportedly revealed a comprehensive layout of the LGA1851 socket and insights into Arrow Lake’s I/O configuration for mobile and desktop processors.
According to Jay, the I/O connectivity for Arrow Lake-S on desktops remains unchanged compared to Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX processors for mobile devices. The only addition to Arrow Lake-S is an extra USB 2 port on the PCH (Platform Controller Hub).
Other features remain consistent, including support for PCIe 5.0, which provides a single x16 slot and one x4 M.2 SSD, and PCIe 4.0 support encompassing secondary PCIe slots, Gigabit Ethernet, and SATA ports.
The leak only applies to Arrow Lake-S’s native connectivity. High-end LGA1851 motherboards should incorporate third-party controllers, allowing for more USB ports, Thunderbolt ports, and USB 4 ports. These enhancements cater to power users requiring more than the Arrow Lake platform offers.
Lunar Lake differs significantly from Arrow Lake. Lunar Lake supports up to six USB 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, and, for the first time, two USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 ports. Additionally, Lunar Lake will natively support UFS (Universal Flash Storage) for the first time.
Despite its historical reputation for being slower than an asthmatic ant with a heavy load of shopping, UFS—particularly UFS 3.0, 3.1, and 4.0—has significantly improved its bandwidth lately. UFS 4.0-compatible storage solutions now offer speeds comparable to some slower PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSDs.
