Computex 2024: Says goodbye to USB Type-A ports at the back
ASRock showcased a lot of products at the Computex 2024 show, but one that caught everyone’s attention is certainly the upcoming next-generation Z890 Taichi Aqua flagship motherboard for Intel’s upcoming Arrow Lake-S processors. The big surprise is the complete lack of USB Type-A ports at the back, leaving it with only USB Type-C ports.
In addition to all the high-end features that you would expect on a flagship motherboard, ASRock has decided to completely remove USB Type-A ports at the back, replacing them with a total of ten USB Type-C ports, two of which are Thunderbolt ports. This clearly shows the way that most motherboard makers will go in the future and while most mice and keyboards still use a Type-A port, it is clearly time we move away from it.
In case you are wondering, eight of the ten ports are USB 3.2 ones, while the other two are Thunderbolt 4 ports. Of course, ASRock had to make some adjustments so four of the USB 3.2 ports are rated for 10Gbps and the other four are 5Gbps ports, also known as USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 and USB 3.2 Gen 1, respectively. ASRock was not keen to reveal any more details as this is still a “yet-to-be-announced chipset”, but we’ll get more details pretty soon.

ASRock also revealed its full lineup of Taichi and Phantom Gaming Series, Steel Legend, as well as Livemixer and mainstream Pro series motherboards.
