Asus cuts price on Strix Halo TUF laptop already

Asus has knocked cash off its new 14-inch Strix Halo gaming laptop only weeks after dragging it into shops.

The TUF Gaming A14 FA401EA took its sweet time reaching the market. Asus announced the machine in January as one of two TUF Gaming A14 laptops shown at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

For those not in the know, the FA401GM combines AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 465 with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 laptop GPU. That machine effectively replaces the older FA401WV, which used a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU and costs $1,499 on Amazon.

According to Notebook Check the FA401EA takes a different route with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 392 APU and Radeon 8060S integrated graphics. Four months after launch, it remains one of the few Strix Halo-powered gaming laptops in the wild.

Lenovo’s Legion 7 15ASH11 should turn up later this year. Until then, Asus has started discounting the FA401EA in the UK, which is quick work for a machine this new.

At publication time, Asus was selling the FA401EA for £1,599 (€1,844) with 32GB of RAM, 1TB of storage and a 73Wh battery. The company originally priced the laptop at £1,649 (€1,902), then pushed it up to £1,799 (€2,075).

Asus has not said when the reduction will end. That leaves buyers guessing whether this is a proper deal or just the usual retail yo-yo with extra RGB.

The FA401EA features a 165Hz display and dual M.2 2280 slots. Asus claims the newer model has better cooling than previous versions, which is handy when stuffing ambitious silicon into a 14-inch chassis.

For context, Asus has cut the 2025 edition to £1,099 (€1,267) with the same display and battery capacity as the 2026 model. The newer machine is still 45 per cent more expensive than its predecessor.

There is a catch with the cheaper 2025 model. It drops to a Ryzen 7 260, 16GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU with 8GB of VRAM.

The FA401EA can assign up to 24GB of VRAM to its Radeon 8060S iGPU. That makes it a more interesting toy for punters who like unified memory tricks and AMD’s latest laptop silicon.

Still, this is a pricey 14-inch gaming laptop, even after the discount. Asus is clearly banking on Strix Halo curiosity doing some of the sales work before the market gets more crowded.
