Corsair has launched the RM1000e, its first power supply to feature the company’s new ThermalProtect system for 12V-2×6 GPU power connections. The technology is designed to detect excessive temperatures at the GPU connector and shut down the power supply before overheating can cause damage to the cable. Corsair’s implementation uses temperature detection hardware positioned around 30mm from the GPU-side connection and triggers its protection mechanism when temperatures exceed 65°C.
The RM1000e is a fully modular PSU available in black and white, with both versions carrying Cybenetics Platinum efficiency certification. It also features a zero-RPM fan mode at low loads and ships with Corsair’s flexible debossed cables and low-profile cable combs. The ThermalProtect 12V-2×6 cable is rated for up to 600W and includes additional guidance for ensuring the connector is properly seated. Corsair says its protection system can respond within milliseconds when excessive temperatures are detected.
Once ThermalProtect activates, the system needs to be powered down and the cable allowed to cool before the connector is inspected and reseated. Corsair recommends making sure the connector is fully inserted until the retention mechanism clicks into place, with none of the grey connector section visible.
The Corsair RM1000e is available now, alongside an 850W version using the same ThermalProtect technology. Bear in mind that Corsair also has the ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 12V-2×6 cable as a standalone option.
