DDR5 memory prices have gone properly berserk, with average kit prices now nearly five times higher than in July 2025.
According to 3Dcenter the endless RAM price hike shows no sign of calming down, and nobody seems to know when the market will stabilise. After a bit of stability in April and May, prices started climbing quickly through the following months.
With the fourth quarter of 2026 looming, things are looking nastier than ever for anyone trying to build a cheap PC. This report focuses on DDR5 pricing in Germany, although the same miserable pattern is showing up elsewhere.
The AI boom keeps shoving RAM prices upwards, making low-budget PC builds feel like a hobby for people with trust funds. Fresh pricing data from 3D Center shows a grim trend that could whack the PC market if it drags on.
The figures come from Geizhals, a popular German price comparison site that tracks live prices from multiple online retailers. July was already a rotten month to buy a DDR5 RAM kit in Germany, but August has somehow managed to be worse.
Prices have started soaring dramatically, and double-digit growth in the coming months now looks horribly plausible. In August, average DDR5 prices climbed to nearly five times their July 2025 level. The price index rose from 445 per cent to 486 per cent in August, making a standard DDR5 kit about 4.9 times as expensive as last year.
Nearly all the worst-hit kits were higher-capacity modules, including 64GB, 48GB and 32GB DDR5 kits. Only a handful of kits dodged the latest weekly rises, but even those remain at more than 400 per cent of July 2025 levels.
The price madness is spilling into other devices and components, including laptops, smartphones, desktops, mini PCs and GPUs. At this rate, a memory upgrade will soon need a credit check and a word with the bank manager about flogging their kidney.
