700-MHz auction success
The FCC has raised more than $18.8 billion in its 700-MHz auction, much more than the $10-15 billion it was expecting.
The fiercest bidding is for a handful of regional licenses as telcos try to plug gaps in their coverage. The only weak point in the sale has been the nationwide C Block license package and the D Block combination commercial-public safety spectrum. C Block has received the minimum bid of for $4.71 billion which could have come from Google, Verizon or AT&T.
Bidding for the D Block is stagnant. The last bid of $472 million isn't close to the $1.3 billion reserve price set by the FCC. It seems certain that this will be re-auctioned with a new set of rules.
