Grokipedia looks frozen solid

xAI founder Elon Musk’s Grokipedia appears to have stopped updating, leaving his anti-woke Wikipedia rival gathering digital dust.

According to Gizmodo Grokipedia stopped reviewing suggested edits and updating articles after 24 April. Users on Reddit and X claimed their edits had been stuck for months.

Researchers at Lawfare said no entry they checked had changed in more than three months. Grokipedia articles are written and maintained by xAI’s Grok, while human users can suggest corrections through a visible review queue.

That queue once moved in minutes, but Lawfare found some suggestions stuck “in review” for more than six weeks.

To test it, researchers submitted a factual update about SpaceX’s initial public offering in June, but the SpaceX page still treated it as an upcoming event.

They analysed 34,519 pages and found none had been updated during the past three months.

Archived checks on about 480 pages suggested Grokipedia’s AI had stopped updating entries on its own, which rather dents the shiny machine oracle routine.

Musk launched Grokipedia last October after moaning about Wikipedia and calling it “Wokipedia”.

“We are building Grokipedia @xAI,” Musk wrote on X in September last year. “Will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia. Frankly, it is a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”

Lawfare researchers Renee DiResta and Ronald Robertson warned: “A reference work whose contents are silently frozen and whose editorial record is inaccurate could propagate incorrect or outdated information into answers that people encounter elsewhere.”
