Bloomberg, reporter Mark Gurman reckons the Fruity Cargo Cult Apple is planning a major Siri overhaul in iOS 27 and macOS 27, swapping the current interface for a deeply integrated, ChatGPT-style chatbot experience.
Gurman said: “Users will be able to summon the new service the same way they open Siri now, by speaking the ‘Siri’ command or holding down the side button on their iPhone or iPad.”
If this sounds familiar, it is what every Android phone has had for the last couple of years, and yet the genii at Apple have consistently failed to get going.
Gurman said: “More significantly, Siri will be integrated into all of the company’s core apps, including ones for mail, music, podcasts, TV, Xcode programming software and photos. That will allow users to do much more with just their voice.”
While Gurman makes it sound like Apple invented this, it’s been on Microsoft products for ages and under the bonnet of Samsung gear, too. Hell, even my midrange Android can manage it.
9to5Mac says the unannounced revamp is expected to be revealed at WWDC in June as the flagship feature for iOS 27 and macOS 27. The release is tipped for September, right on schedule for Job’s Mob’s annual software drop.
Before that, Job’s Mob is still expected to ship an improved Siri and Apple Intelligence this spring, without changing the assistant’s look. 9to5Mac claims the brains in that version come from Google’s Gemini models, which makes iOS 26 sound like a warm-up lap.
Gurman says the larger overhaul will “allow users to search the web for information, create content, generate images, summarise information and analyse uploaded files” while leaning on “personal data to complete tasks, being able to more easily locate specific files, songs, calendar events and text messages.”
Bloomberg reckons the new Siri will support both text and voice, which is hardly radical in 2026. The awkward bit is that Siri already takes both inputs today, yet still behaves as if every request is the first time it has met you.
