Microsoft brings Xbox App to Arm-based Windows 11 PCs

Microsoft has officially launched its Xbox App to Arm-based Windows 11 PCs, saying that more than 85 percent of the Game Pass catalog is now compatible on those devices.

According to Microsoft, this marks an important milestone for gamers, as the Xbox App now brings the same experience as on x86 laptops and desktops to Arm-based devices running on Windows 11 OS. Microsoft says that it is working with its partners to expand support beyond the announced 85 percent, and if some titles do not run locally, they have Xbox Cloud Gaming as an option.

The support comes thanks to Microsoft Prism, a x86/x64 translation layer for Windows on Arm. The Prism supports bot AVX and AVX2 instructions, which should help in running those games on Arm-based devices. Microsoft also added the Windows Performance Fit option, which should both suggest games and settings for a game to run well on a device.

Unfortunately, the performance could still be questionable, as some Arm-based devices do not offer high-end performance and may struggle with certain games. However, with the Snapdragon X2 devices around the corner, it might push the performance in the right direction.
