The day the music dies
Punters who thought they had bought music from MSN for life are finding that Vole has given their entire collection three to five years to live.
According to Information Week, Microsoft has decided that it will use the DRM in the music to stop any songs bought from the failed MSN Music service after August 30. MSN music was killed off a couple of years ago when Microsoft bought out the Zune.
MSN Music customers have been told that Vole will not support the retrieval of license keys, which is the kiss of death to Vole DRM. It means that you will not be able to port your library to a new device. The whole issue has got people scratching their heads and wondering what Vole is up to. All it seems to be doing is angering customers and inviting a class action suit.
