May return assets over wrong warrant
The New Zealand High Court has found that the court order used for seizing MegaUpload’s assets was invalid.
It turned out that the police applied for a foreign restraining order, rather than the appropriate interim restraining order. The mistake has since been corrected.
While there is a slim chance of MegaUpload’s assets being returned, it’s still a long shot and the defense would have to prove that the error was in bad faith.
