The latest internet fear gripping the US is that their kids are sending naked pictures of themselves to their mates.

In the sexually repressed US, where most fears are sexual and nothing ever really happens, parents and schools are apparently terrified about what their kids are getting up too. Sexting, as it has been called, has happened, but there is little proof that it is as wide spread as some right wing commentators would believe.

When it has happened the wonderful American justice system is happy to blight teens for life and prosecute them as sex offenders in the hope of "sending a message" out to kids.  Normally the charge is of making kiddie porn.

In Pennsylvania, three high school girls who sent seminude photos and four male students who received them were all hit with child pornography charges. Quite who the victim in the case is not clear. The boys didn't chose to receive the picture and the girls sent it to them.

However what is really flirting has been going on in high schools for years. The fact it has a high tech angle seems to have got parents more worried.
One thing that has not happened however is in depth research into how wide spread the problem is.

No figures have been touted and while some cases have been reported, if the problem was that bad there would be thousands reports and not just a handful.
