Peddlers of overpriced wire, Monster Cable is
apparently in hot water after the death of Circuit City. Founder and "Head
Monster" Noel Lee was quoted in USAToday says that the company is slashing
prices in order to increase market share.
It is still silly money. an 8' HDMI cable that used to cost $125 will now retail for $99. You can pick up an 8' HDMI cable for $4-$15. It seems that as the economy has shrunk and the consumer electronics market died as evidenced in the collapse of Circuit City, people are wondering if paying daft money for wires really is worth it.
Monster believes that their cables are worth the
extra dosh, but the markup is obscene and there is probably little difference. Monster stuff was good when you needed to deal
with analog gear, but digital signal is either on or off and either works or it
doesn't.
