Nvidia insists missing RTX 5090 is still alive

Nvidia insists its elusive GeForce RTX 5090 remains in production, despite empty shelves and third-party asking prices that suggest it comes with a swimming pool and a granny flat.

Nvidia senior vice-president of personal computing Jeff Fisher rejected discontinuation rumours during an interview at the RTX Spark launch event in Taipei.

According to Taiwanese outlet 4Gamers, Fisher acknowledged supply constraints but said the company would continue shipping its flagship gaming GPU.

The reassurance follows reports that Nvidia was stopping RTX 5090 production as it prioritised more lucrative AI and professional products. Reports that the RTX 50 Super refresh had been put on hold had already done little for gamers’ confidence.

Fisher’s comments suggest the company still intends to serve customers who occasionally use its graphics cards for gaming. Finding one at a sensible price remains a separate exercise.

According to Tom’s Hardware, US retailers had third-party Amazon listings asking about $8,500. Newegg listings were around $7,300, with shipping times suggesting some sellers were based in China. Those are asking prices from marketplace sellers, with potential import charges adding further pain. The publication’s checks found no cards available at Best Buy.

The RTX 5090 was absent from Nvidia’s marketplace and Micro Centre when the report appeared on 17 October. Declaring a product alive is considerably easier than putting one on a shelf.

Fisher pointed to GeForce’s role in building Nvidia’s business, explaining that its parallel processing capabilities helped establish CUDA and the subsequent AI market. That history may offer little comfort to gamers now competing for the company’s attention as customers order data centres.

Fisher described the RTX 5090 as an important part of Nvidia’s product range and said the team was working to get products into the market. He characterised supply constraints as an industry-wide problem.
