Nvidia punts RTX 5050 and drags the RTX 3060 back out

Nvidia has hit snooze on its cheap GPU plans.

The outfit is reportedly pushing its GeForce RTX 5050 9 GB to a late June launch, leaving a budget gaming hole it plans to plug by flogging the old RTX 3060 12 GB again.

The dark satanic rumour mill has manufactured a hell-on-earth yarn claiming that Nvidia has been cooking up a fresh entry-tier RTX 5050 variant that keeps the same core GPU specs but swaps in a 9 GB VRAM setup on a 96-bit memory bus. It was expected to land around Computex, between late May and early June, but leaker MEGAsizeGPU now says it is drifting into late June.

The RTX 5050 9 GB never looked like a hype magnet, but it had one clear job: avoid the 8 GB trap. Some modern games chew through VRAM as if it were free, and a few even refuse to run properly when memory is tight.

Developers are trying a few tricks to make 8 GB cards less painful, but the limits still bite when textures and frame buffers get chunky. That makes 9 GB a weird number, but it is still better than watching settings sliders turn into error messages.

Until that part arrives, Nvidia is leaning on the GeForce RTX 3060, with the 12 GB model tipped as the stopgap for budget builds. It is Ampere-era kit, so you are not getting the newest tensor or RT cores, and it is not DLSS 4 compliant, but people notice 12 GB when prices are a mess.

If Nvidia can price it at less than $200 in the US, it might shift units while everyone waits for the RTX 5050 9 GB to show up. There are rumours of 9 GB versions of the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti too.
