N1 and N1X are tipped for Windows on ARM notebooks soon, with N2 and N2X pencilled in for 2027.
The plan has been rumbling since last year, when rumours said Nvidia wanted to lean on ARM to build a laptop SoC, then the timetable seemed to slip. Instead, we got DGX Spark with the GB10 chip, billed as being “within the lines” of what you might expect from Nvidia laptop silicon.
A DigiTimes report claims the N1X will debut in notebooks by Q1 this year, with retail availability by Q2, so the long-teased consumer push may finally land.
The pitch fits Nvidia’s push to own the “AI ecosystem”, with N1 and N1X framed as delivering leading-edge AI performance as a “high-end AI computing platform”.
The report suggests the chips did not ship last year because the WoA (Windows on ARM) ecosystem was not mature enough, plus Nvidia had chip design headaches.
Specs are still mostly smoke, but the ARM parts are said to be built on TSMC’s 3nm process and to use a design configuration similar to the GB10 SoC.
DigiTimes claims Nvidia is already plotting N2 and N2X follow-ups, with consumer products possibly arriving as soon as Q3 2027.
That is a serious swing at a segment where Team Green has never really owned the room, with Intel and AMD traditionally dominating laptop CPUs.
The retail approach sounds very Nvidia, with OEMs expected to build from a reference design and partners filtered through “approved” (AVL) and “recommended” (RVL) vendor lists.
The report claims RVL partners may be able to fine-tune specs, including fiddling with clock speeds for extra performance, though how verification works is still fuzzy.
With a Q1 timeline, these chips could show up at GTC 2026 in March, with retail machines paraded at Computex, right as Chipzilla lines up Panther Lake and AMD readies Gorgon Point.
