Oracle has sent a force majeure notice to the developer of its New Mexico Stargate data centre, protecting itself against possible project delays.
According to TechCrunch, the notice could let Oracle postpone payments if Project Jupiter misses its target to come online in 2028. Oracle is the planned main tenant and is not seeking to leave the project. It says the timetable remains intact.
A spokesOracle said: “Project Jupiter remains on our planned schedule. We are fully committed to New Mexico and confident in our path forward.”
Blue Owl Capital, whose unit received the notice, tweeted it does not change the project’s financial commitments.
Getting enough power to the 2.45-gigawatt campus has proved awkward. The site is intended to run on gas-powered fuel cells, but a pipeline meant to supply them has been delayed by nearly six months after regulators rejected permits. Its current target date is 1 February 2027.
A separate air-quality permit for the fuel cells is still pending. New Mexico’s environmental department has until 23 November to decide. Oracle says none of this has pushed Project Jupiter off schedule, though the force majeure notice gives it some cover if that changes.
Oracle has had a terrible year with the cocaine nose jobs of Wall Street, who think it is spending far too much cash on hardware for data centres.
