China wants Gen6 SSD bragging rights, and PetaIO is leaning into the Nanjing hype.
The storage outfit has unveiled next-gen PCIe Gen6 SSD plans with claimed speeds of more than 28 GB/s, pitching it as a domestic play built for data centres and AI boxes.
At MemoryS 2026, PetaIO rolled out its upcoming PCIe Gen6 NVMe SSD story, waving PCIe 6.0 and AI tech around while claiming CXL 3.0 compliance. It is aimed at data centres and built around a fresh controller.
PetaIO says the drive is built around its flagship Titanium Himalaya controller on a 6nm process node.
PetaIO said, “The new PCIe 6.0 + AI + CXL flagship controller chip, ‘Titanium Himalaya’, based on a 6nm process, is under development。”
The firm’s machine-translated blurb said:
“This chip not only boasts a groundbreaking 28+ GB/s sequential read bandwidth, but it is specifically optimised for AI inference and vector retrieval, achieving exceptional random read performance of up to 50M IOPS (512B) and an ultra-low latency of 2.7us.”
Those figures align with its broader pitch about CXL memory expansion pools, GPU HBM cache talk, and breaking the “memory wall”.
The Titanium Himalaya PCIe Gen6 SSD controller offers transfer bandwidth beyond 28 GB/s (Sequential Read), and up to 50M IOPS (512B). The SSD will provide an ultra-low latency of 2.7 µs. The company has not revealed when its products will launch, but they are likely to align with upcoming enterprise AI solutions, which are expected by the year’s end.
