The prices of semiconductor components set to rise as
suppliers are unable to cope with the sudden huge demand.
Price increases are expected in power management, MOSFETs
and DRAM. It is unlikely that there will
be any reduction any time soon as foundries are already flat out.
Digitimes said that prices for semiconductor components could climb up more than 10 per
cent in the second quarter of 2010 after having been raised by 5-10 per cent on
average in the first quarter.
Multi-chip package products have increased by the highest
percentage points. This mostly because
there was a shortage of NOR flash
chips. They are likely to remain high throughout the rest of the
year.
Apparently suppliers who did not hike the prices of
microcontroller units in the first quarter are expected to hike prices in the
second.
