GSC Game World has announced that Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will arrive on August 20 as a free upgrade for all owners. The update brings a new engine version alongside a substantial visual overhaul, improvements to the A-Life system, customizable difficulty options, new binoculars, weapons, and optics, as well as a number of changes designed to make the Zone more dynamic and immersive.
The visual update focuses mostly on lighting, with more natural illumination, improved shadows, and reflections across indoor, outdoor, and underground environments. Landscapes and foliage have also been reworked, while weather effects such as fog now play a more active role in gameplay by reducing visibility and hearing for both stalkers and enemies.
A-Life is also getting a substantial set of changes, with more contested locations such as campfires and bus stops creating additional opportunities for encounters between stalkers and mutants. GSC has also addressed several underlying issues, including enemies attacking through walls and excessive population in certain areas.
Update 2.0 introduces Custom Rules, allowing players to adjust individual difficulty settings and create a more forgiving or significantly harsher survival experience. Master difficulty and the optional Expedition mode will also remain available for players looking for a tougher challenge. Three types of binoculars have been added for scouting and target identification, while the arsenal expands with the Arev assault rifle, GP3A and SKP designated marksman rifles, and the Fora-230 submachine gun. New optics include a 3x scope for Western weapons and a red-dot sight for Eastern weapons, while offset aiming is no longer limited to night-vision equipment.
Other additions include a new PDA Statistics page, improved Light Rainy weather visuals, and different appearances for Bloodsuckers and Fleshes depending on their habitat.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope expansion launches alongside update 2.0
GSC also announced that August 20 will mark the release of Cost of Hope, the first major expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. The expansion focuses on the long-running conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions and adds new locations including the Iron Forest, CNPP, and Spatial Bubble. Cost of Hope will be included with the Ultimate Edition or sold separately for $29.99/€29.99, with regional pricing applying.
