Turns out bigger really is better
A couple of years ago Samsung introduced the original Galaxy Note, arguably the first Android phablet ever, or at least the first one to become a huge commercial success. Since then we saw two new generations, but the approach has remained the same – slap a huge screen on top of an overkill SoC and presto, a new high-end niche was born.
The first generation Note sold ten million units in roughly a year, but the latest Note 3 passed the 10 million mark in just two months of sales. Samsung decided to celebrate the occasion with a smug infographic, depicting all Samsung phones in the “10 million seller club,” ranging from the 2002 SGH-T100 to the current Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3.
Back in 2002 Samsung was a relatively small player in the mobile space, dwarfed by the likes of Nokia, Motorola and Sony-Ericsson. Things have changed quite a bit since then, haven’t they?
