According to ETNews, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 seems to be doing rather better than the bean counters expected, with demand for the wider foldable giving production planners a headache.
The new shape appears to have struck a chord with punters. Samsung has already confirmed much stronger pre-order figures, while some versions went out of stock or faced hefty delays during the pre-order window, which ended last week.
The outfit said the Galaxy Z Fold 8 had broken sales records, smashed the pre-order benchmark set by the late Note 10 and seen European pre-orders rise 70 per cent compared with the Z Fold 7.
Samsung has claimed the device is tempting Galaxy Z Flip owners to jump ship, which suggests the wider format is not just a gimmick for spec-sheet botherers.
ETNews reports that Samsung has ordered another one million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units this week. That comes on top of production numbers already said to be higher than previous generations.
The result is likely to nudge Samsung and the rest of the Android world further towards the wide foldable format, particularly as the Fruity Cargo Cult Apple prepares its first foldable iPhone in much the same shape.
