Will be in beta before the end of the year
In a surprising turn of events, Valve has confirmed though Linux evangelist Michael Larabel that Linux will be getting full Steam support. When it arrives, it will make the third platform that Steam supports, with the other two being Windows and Mac OS X. In addition, the developer is also converting the Source Engine over to Linux.
The Steam client is currently being worked on and Valve expects it to be in beta before the end of the year. Currently the developer has been using Left 4 Dead 2 for testing and it is described to have a “stable code base” which” is a clear indication that they are very far in the process.
