Super Flower has launched a GPU power-monitoring dongle, giving owners another accessory to buy while worrying about their expensive graphics cards melting.
According to PC Gamer, the VGA 12+4PIN OCP Dongle sits between the graphics card and its power cable, monitoring current through the connector’s individual 12V lines.
These connectors can deliver up to 600W, but uneven current distribution can overload individual pins. Apparently, buying a flagship GPU now comes with an unpaid electrical inspection job. Super Flower’s device uses ARGB lighting and a buzzer to warn users when current exceeds specified thresholds.
A reading between 9.5A and 12A sustained for 10 seconds triggers an orange light and rapid beeps. A difference exceeding 6A between any two 12V lines produces the same warning. If current exceeds 12A for 10 seconds, the indicator flashes red and a continuous alarm sounds for 180 seconds.
A further 15-second solid-red warning follows before the device triggers its VGA Black Screen Protection mode. Once that sequence starts, it remains active even if current returns to normal.
Super Flower tells users to shut down and inspect the cables between the power supply and graphics card before restarting. The product joins a growing collection of accessories intended to reduce GPU connector problems, including Cooler Master’s GPU Shield Adapter Cable.
PC Gamer reports that the Super Flower dongle is available in Taiwan as part of a power supply bundle, citing information from Uniko’s Hardware. Standalone availability has not yet been confirmed.
