System76 has launched the Thelio Mira AI, a Linux workstation built for local AI jobs without renting somebody else’s cloud.
According to Phoronix, the new machine is aimed at multi-GPU AI training, model fine-tuning, inference, computer vision and image generation. Its Ryzen 9000 hardware should also make it useful for simulations and other HPC workloads.
System76 based the machine on the refreshed Thelio Mira chassis and Ryzen 9000 platform introduced earlier this year.
The AI version adds more GPU options and lower-wattage AMD CPU options, leaving more of the power budget for graphics cards. Processor choices include the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, Ryzen 9 9900X and 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X.
Graphics options stretch to AMD’s Radeon AI Pro R9700 or Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000. Anyone whose bank manager has stopped returning calls can specify two RTX Pro 6000 cards.
System memory starts at 64GB and can be increased to 128GB or 192GB, with various SSD configurations available. Thelio Mira AI pricing starts at $3,299. Buyers wanting more CPU grunt can move up to System76’s Threadripper-based Thelio Major instead.
