Tencent has decided not to buy Xiaomi’s premium gaming smartphone brand, Black Shark.
The dark satanic rumour mill has been claiming that Xiaomi has been trying to off-load Black Shark, to Tencent since early 2022.
Black Shark will fire half its employees and will abandon plans for a foray into virtual reality (VR) tech. It is bad news for Xiaomi which was hoping to collect $420 million from the deal.
Meanwhile, Black Shark’s more established line of mobile gaming flagships and not been upgraded with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.
