Valve has confirmed the global release of its Steam Controller, set to launch on May 4. Designed as a flexible input device for PCs, laptops, Steam Deck, and VR setups, the new Steam Controller will start at $99 in the US, with pricing set at €99 in Europe and £85 in the UK.
Rather than sticking to a traditional layout, Valve is going for expanded controls with the new Steam Controller, combining dual trackpads, motion sensing via gyro, Grip Sense input, and four rear buttons that can all be configured through Steam Input. The controller also introduces TMR-based magnetic thumbsticks, aimed at improving precision, responsiveness, and long-term durability, along with capacitive touch functionality for additional control options.
Another addition is a magnetic puck accessory that acts as both a wireless receiver and charging dock, attaching directly to the controller for a cleaner setup. Valve continues to emphasize the trackpads as a core feature, positioning them as a mouse alternative for games built around keyboard and mouse input, while gyro support adds further fine control.
At launch, the controller will include a wide range of preconfigured profiles created by the community, covering thousands of games, with more expected over time to refine compatibility and user experience.
