Doctors decide

The American Medical Association's annual meeting has decided that computer game addiction is not a psychiatric illness, like alcoholism.
Addiction experts at the conference also strongly opposed the idea saying that more study was needed before it could be classed as a mental illness.

Dr. Stuart Gitlow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York said that there is nothing here to suggest that excessive computer game use was a complex physiological disease substance abuse disorders.

If the conference had voted in favour of making video games abuse a psychiatric illness it would have paved the way for insurance companies to have to pay out for sufferers.
