VeriSign increases prices by seven percent
The controller of Internet addresses has decided to raise
the price of ".com" and ".net" registration by between
seven and ten percent. The annual levy for ".com" will increase 7
percent to $6.42, and the ".net" fee will go up 10 percent to $3.85.
The prices are what VeriSign charges web companies that
sell domain names on its behalf. VeriSign will make $29 million a year from the
increase, which will take effect October 15.
The price hike will only apply to new name registrations
and renewals, and customers can lock in the old prices until October 14.
