Rolling out an iOS 8.1 update soon

During its live event in Cupertino, Apple announced both the new Mac OS X Yosemite as well as an upcoming update for iOS 8.

Showcased and detailed back in June at WWDC, OS X Yosemite will be available to all Mac users for free as of today. Apple's latest Mac OS X update will bring plenty of new features and is described as Apple's biggest makeover in years.

While OS X Mavericks was a bit of a letdown, Yosemite took a page out of Apple's iOS 7 and brings plenty of updates for Spotlight search, Safari, Messages, Mail, Calendar, Notification Center as well as better integration with iOS, including an ability to answer calls or communicate via texts from your Mac.

In addition to the OS X Yosemite, Apple has also announced a new update for iOS. The iOS 8.1. update will be rolling out to iOS devices next Monday, October 20th.

According to Craig Federighi, Apple's senior VP of Software Engineering, the new iOS 8.1 update will bring Apple Pay compatibility, bring back the Camera Roll, access to public beta of iCloud Photo Library as well as the important Continuity compatibility which will allow you to receive those texts and phone calls on your OS X Yosemite updated Mac. It will also allow you to share Keynote slides, share your cellural connectivity via Instant Hotspot or push your emails from your Mac to your iPad.
