To arrive in North America on May 18th

Developer Blackrock Studios and Disney Interactive have now confirmed that the upcoming racer Split/Second will be released on May 18th in North America, while Europe will see it arrive on May 21st. The news of a confirmed release date will be the first follow up from the same studio that developed Pure.

Split/Second is a new type of game for developer Blackrock.  While it is a racing title that makes use of its already highly evolved racing engine technology, the title is set in the world of a fictional reality TV show where contestants race to win; at the same time in order to win they can trigger explosive events that alter the track to create shortcuts or even take out other cars.

The game has received a very strong preview buzz with Blackrock and Disney Interactive working hard to get the news out about the title to the media. While the game has been available for pre-order for some time, it was only recently announced that the pre-order bonus for Split/Second was an unlock code for a bonus car and die-cast car from the game. To be honest, a die-cast car has not gotten too many people excited to pre-order the title, but the bonus car is nice.

When it arrives starting on May 18th, it will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $59.99 and for the PC at a cost of $49.99. It does seem that this title will be one title to watch this year, as we think it has the potential to be highly successful.
