Sony attempts to get PSPgo sales moving again

Ahead of E3 we have learned that Sony has revamped the PSPgo bundle. The new bundle includes download codes for LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3. Sony claims this move will add $80 worth of free software to the PSPgo package.

In addition to the new PSPgo bundle, Sony has worked with its third party developers to slash the price on a number of classic and Greatest Hits titles to a low $9.99. These new titles are part of a collection that Sony is calling “PSP Favorites” and the move provides a number of titles that PSPgo owners can pick up on the cheap.

The move by Sony is an effort to hopefully ignite PSPgo sales which have been pretty much dead after the initial excitement of the PSPgo was over. Sony apparently still has high hopes for this model and the electronic software distribution methodology that the system uses.

Many analysts believe that Sony will continue to have to push hard to increase the sales of the PSP platform in order to attract more developers. Developers, on the other hand, have been slow to support the platform after having very little sales success after the initial release of the unit. Sony is said to have been making very attractive deals in order to attract additional software development for the PSP platform. A lack of software and high prices seem to be the main reasons that the platform has only had moderate success with consumers.
