The iPhone will still have the Intel based modem which will be a big win for the Santa Clara-based company. Big companies like Apple like to have more than one supplier and the iPhone 6S SoC comes from Samsung and TSMC. They have similar chips but not the same, but this gives Apple an advantage over suppliers and if one of them has issues, the company can simply order it from the other.
We expect the Iphone 6S to have Cat 6 or a later modem supporting carrier aggregation. This is something that most of the network providers want from modern phones. Scoring the Apple contract will give Intel confirmation that its gigantic investment in mobile phone and LTE business was not in vein. Apple should sell millions of these phones and this will generate some cash for Chipzilla.
The iPad Pro 9.7 will get the insides of the bigger 12 inch iPad in a smaller form factor. It will probably find its supporters. Knowing Apple, there might be a bit more than just these two products but we will have to wait for 10AM on March 21 see it.
