Snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 beats Exynos 2600 where it hurts

Benchmark leaks have dumped a cold bucket of reality on Samsung’s Exynos 2600 hype.

The early Geekbench 6 numbers show Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy stretching its legs on CPU, while Samsung claws back a tiny win on graphics.

The tests, shared by @GadgetsBoy, claim to show a Galaxy S26 Ultra running the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, with the other handset thought to be a Galaxy S26 or S26+.

In Geekbench 6, the Snapdragon chip posts a single-core score of 3,670 and a multi-core score of 10,981, while the Exynos 2600 lands 3,105 single-core and 10,444 multi-core.

That puts Qualcomm up by 18.2 per cent in single-core and 5.14 per cent in multi-core, which is not the sort of gap Samsung will want stapled to every “2nm GAA” headline.

The Exynos 2600 at least stops the bleeding in compute graphics, with an OpenCL score of 24,240, versus the Snapdragon’s 24,152.

Samsung’s edge is pinned on the Xclipse 960 GPU, said to use a customised version of AMD’s RDNA4 architecture, which helps it nick the OpenCL result. The copy points out that Vulkan was not tested.

None of this is the full performance picture because Geekbench bursts are short and phones do not live in a lab.

Samsung is waving its Heat Pass Block, a copper heatsink sitting directly on top of the die, as a way the Exynos 2600 could hold up better once the stopwatch runs longer and the heat starts biting.
