Microsoft fixes Windows gaming stutter

Software King of the World Microsoft has quietly fixed a Windows 11 bug that could make mouse input stutter in games.

According to Windows Latest the repair arrived in update KB5127648 on 13 October, tucked into the release notes beneath the Gaming heading.

Vole said: “This update fixes an issue that could cause mouse input to stutter in some games.”

Its explanation offers no affected game names, technical cause or indication of how many players encountered the problem. The fix was absent from the optional September preview, making it a new addition for October. Players investigating unexplained mouse trouble now have another confirmed suspect, although Microsoft has provided little detail.

The publication found complaints involving Star Wars: The Old Republic and Final Fantasy XIV, including erratic camera movement after returning to gameplay. One user tried different peripherals, lower sensitivity, reduced polling rates, and a clean boot, but it didn’t resolve their symptoms.

Windows Latest reported that Logitech responded to that user with a merchandise discount, which seems an ambitious interpretation of technical support.

Recent reports from The Division 2 players described camera or mouse stuttering even when the game otherwise appeared to run smoothly. Microsoft has not established that those complaints share the same cause, so this patch cannot promise to cure every twitchy cursor.

The confirmed repair concerns mouse input in some games, giving affected players a specific fix to test through Windows Update.

Users can open Settings, select Windows Update, check for updates, install the available package, and restart their computers. Microsoft says machines with earlier updates installed will download only the new changes included in this release.

Persistent stuttering may still require investigating peripheral drivers, wireless interference, display synchronisation settings, or unusually high mouse polling rates. Windows Latest noted a separate report involving external monitors connected through a dock, illustrating how similar symptoms can have different causes.

KB5127648 takes Windows 11 26H2 to build 26300.9711, 25H2 to build 26200.9711 and 24H2 to build 26100.9711.
