Asus has launched a gaming Ethernet cable costing about $41, apparently hoping its ROG branding will make an ordinary network accessory more exciting.
According to Notebookcheck, the ROG Zoom is a Category 8 cable that supports data rates up to 40Gbps and frequencies up to 2,000MHz.
Buyers in China can choose between a 1.5-metre version costing approximately $41 and a three-metre model at about $55. Asus has not announced international pricing or availability.
Asus has fitted 26 AWG oxygen-free copper conductors, double shielding and a high-density braided sleeve. The RJ45 connectors feature gold-plated copper shielding intended to resist corrosion and wear from repeated connections.
The company pitches the cable at low-latency gaming setups, although buying one will not persuade your broadband provider to install a faster connection.
Its maximum data rate requires suitable networking equipment. Gaming latency depends on the wider network, internet connection, and game server, none of which improves because the cable has ROG branding.
The Zoom debuted alongside Asus’s flagship ROG Octopus 8 gaming router, priced at approximately $965 in China.
