Nvidia insists its GeForce RTX 5090 remains in production, even if an unnamed board partner reportedly cannot order the parts needed to build it.
According to VideoCardz even backorders are apparently off the menu, giving manufacturers the comforting assurance that a product exists without the inconvenience of being able to order it.
Hardware enthusiast Roman Hartung, better known as der8auer, contacted Nvidia and supply chain sources to investigate dark satanic rumour mill reports that the flagship graphics card was being discontinued.
Nvidia sent a written response saying the RTX 5090 had not been discontinued and would keep shipping despite production constraints. That repeats assurances Nvidia executive Jeff Fisher gave earlier this month.
However, one board partner told Hartung it could no longer order GB202 GPUs bundled with the 32GB of GDDR7 memory the card requires.
The manufacturer had received no end-of-life notification. It did not know whether Nvidia would reopen ordering. During previous shortages, Nvidia let manufacturers place orders and wait for supplies. According to the partner, that option is no longer available.
The report does not establish whether every board partner faces the same restrictions, so claims of a complete ordering shutdown remain unconfirmed.
Hartung contacted a graphics card cooling supplier, which described a sharp reduction in expected demand.
According to that source, two board partners have substantially reduced their projected RTX 5090 cooler orders for the first quarter of 2027 compared with the third quarter of 2026.
The supplier had received no RTX 5090 cooling orders for the second quarter of 2027. That hardly suggests manufacturers are preparing for a glorious return to plentiful stock.
The accounts add to earlier reports of reduced GB202 allocations for GeForce products, although Nvidia continues to deny discontinuing the card.
VideoCardz previously reported that the RTX 5090 had disappeared from Nvidia’s US Marketplace and that Micro Centre listings had changed to “Not Carried”. Both remained unchanged after Nvidia assured that the card would continue shipping.
